Primer Overview

This post is all about the face primers. Lets just go ahead and point out the obvious, I love primers. Primers can help with the texture of your skin which allows your makeup to sit better. They can also can help with longevity and making sure your makeup lasts all day. For the most part every time that I am applying makeup I apply a primer first, I enjoy the idea of having a barrier between my skincare and my makeup. There are many primers on the market for different needs so here is an overview of the ones I have in my makeup stash.

Radiance/ Moisture

~ Laura Mercier Foundation Primer in Radiance ~ A beautiful primer that not only allows your base to adhere and last longer but also gives a boost of radiance. This will definitely be getting some serious use when the colder months set in and my "glow" is officially non-existent. The consistency is similar to a lotion which I prefer when my skin is feeling dry.

~ Korres Vitamin E Primer ~ When you have dry skin, makeup can enhance any dry patches that you may be suffering from, that's where this product comes in. Silicone free this gives a dose of vitamins and other great ingredients that hydrate and perfect the skin so your foundation can go on smoother and look better. It has a beautiful citrus scent and sets so that your makeup doesn't budge.

~ Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Under Eye Primer ~ I like to use this product when I decide to re-apply my makeup midday or for the evening and I don't want to use my heavier eye cream this is a great alternative. It hydrates the under eye and preps it for your concealer so you don't have to worry about it disappearing or creasing on you.

Pore Minimizing/ Oil-Absorbing

~ Benefit Pore-Fessional ~ A cult favorite. I don't have much of a problem with large pores but this primer does a great job at absorbing oil and creating a smooth canvas. Great everyday primer.

~ Too Faced Primed and Poreless ~ This used to be my FAVORITE primer and has now been pushed down to close second. My skin always just looks so much better when I use this and my makeup lasts forever with out any oil disturbing my t-zone.

~ Urban Decay B6 Vitamin Infused Complexion Prep Spray ~ A spray on primer! I was so excited to see that Urban Decay had released this because it was so hot here in DC that the last thing I wanted to do was put a heavy silicon primer on my face. This is a light refreshing mist that absorbs oil and helps everything stay in place. Love this for the hot months and days when I'm in a hurry.

Long-Lasting/ Skin Smoothing

~ Benefit Stay Flawless 15-hour Primer ~ Pretty much a glue stick for your face. I promise your makeup will not go anywhere (so be careful).

~ Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer with SPF 15 ~ You cant talk about a primer in the beauty community and not mention this one. A primer all rounder that leaves a beautiful satin finish on the skin.

~ Clarins Instant Smooth Perfecting Primer ~ This has easily taken the spot of my favorite primer. The mousse texture allows it to be light on the skin while leaving my skin looking flawless. My base blends in seamlessly and out of all the primers that I have listed this is the one that will probably fill every ones specific needs.

How do you feel about the world of primers?

  1. Thanks for sharing! I recently found your blog in my search of looking for one that's all about makeup/beauty. I've never used primer daily and but will probably start. I never really understood it's purpose and my first/only use was on my wedding day. After reading this, I will probably try the one by Laura Mercier.

    1. Yea definitely give the Laura Mercier a try and let me know how it works out for you!
