The Face Powder Overview

Face powders have changed drastically in the last couple of years. Long gone are the powders that would look dry and cakey on your face. Brands are now putting out beautiful finely milled powders that not only enhance your makeup and prevent shine but bring out a radiant glow. From translucent powders to powders that can double as foundation here is an overview of the ones I keep in my stash.

Under Eye Powders
~ Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder ~ I used to have a really hard time at keeping my under eye concealer in place and not creasing. Benefits Powderflage was my holy grail under eye primer to brighten and completely set my concealer, to this day I am still really bitter about them discontinuing that amazing product ( yep still using the last savory bits of it). Laura Mercier quickly stepped in to save the day, not exactly a dupe, this powder still does a really good job of brightening while setting your concealer.

Translucent Powders
~ Laura Mercier Invisible Loose Setting Powder in Universal ~ A pretty standard translucent setting powder, except, it's a really fine powder and it doesn't give me a white overcast. I think the most frustrating thing when it comes to translucent products is that 99.9% of the time they are not translucent especially for those of us who have darker skin tones. This product is great (just make sure to use a light hand) and it gives the skin a beautiful satin finish.

~ NARS Light Reflecting Setting Powder Pressed ~ Now this is REALLY invisible, too the point that sometimes I wish I picked up the loose version so that I can actually see how much product is going on to my brush. This is great for the matte/luminous look. It completely mattifies your skin but it still gives the illusion that you are glowing, this is similar to the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder but the NARS version gives a little less glow perfect for those of you who have oilier skin types.

Radiant Setting Powders
~ MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Dark ~ One of my all time favorite makeup products this has been in my stash for years. An automatic repurchase and all though there are some great powders out there this one I find to be the most versatile. It sets your makeup, it leaves a beautiful radiant glow behind and it can double as a foundation. When I first began using makeup this is all I would use as my foundation and it always left my skin looking amazing.

~ Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light ~ The beauty community went crazy when these powders first released earlier this year and other brands quickly caught on to the hype and released a few radiant powders of their own. Having fresh healthy looking skin is what Hourglass is all about and these powders do just that. They set your makeup and recreate your own personal flattering lighting.

Sheer Setting Powders
~ Benefit Hello Flawless in Nutmeg with SPF 15 ~ This is marketed as a powder foundation but because it is so sheer I tend to use it as a light setting powder. I love it because it gives my skin a nice polished look. It's not too matte or too radiant its just a perfect "natural" finish.

~ MAC Studio Careblend Pressed Powder in Dark ~ I use this product when my skin is looking extremely oily. It is the mattest powder I have out of my collection and it quickly takes down the shine on my t-zone.

~ Revlon Nearly Naked Pressed Powder in Deep ~ The texture of this powder is very smooth and creamy similar to my MAC Studio Careblend. It's a very "natural' looking powder that blends into your skin like butter. One of my newer purchases and I am glad I picked it up. Revlon should really expand their Nearly Naked line because I am in love.

What is your all time favorite powder? Do you use powder?
