A Journey to Bold Lips

I don't know why it has taking me this long to embrace bold lips. I would shy away from brighter colors and always opt for a natural pinky nude gloss. Who knew I could have so much fun with lip color. From the raspberry pinks to vampy berries,  I have been trying everything lately. My favorite? Definitely an old fashioned red lip. It takes any outfit to classy and sophisticated in seconds and I can have barely there makeup and still look put together. Here are a few of my recently purchased bold lip products and what I have learned about picking out the best colors and application.

(Rimmel Apocalips in Apocaliptic, NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Luxembourg)

The Pinks
Bright Pinks have always scared me, they look great on everyone else but for some reason I felt my lips couldn't pull it off. Well, I was kinda right, when it comes to bright pinks I need to stick to warmer raspberry toned pinks...cool/ blue toned pinks are an absolutely NO on me. Also, I prefer a glossy or satin finish on pinks. Matte pinks can look a little odd or chalky on me. I am in love with these two colors, even for the fall, they do a great job of just brightening up my face and adding something exciting to my usual neutral look.

The Reds
My favorite color to wear is Red. The color is just perfect in so many ways. I've discovered that it really doesn't matter what kind of red or the finish,  it pretty much will look great on my skin tone, which also makes it easier for me to own every red ever made. Rimmel Apocalips in Big Bang is a very bright tomato red with just a hint of orange in it. I love these Rimmel apocalips products because they are extremely saturated and wear down to a stain after a couple of hours. Wet n Wilds Saraghina is a orange red. NARS Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella which I have said is my signature red is beautiful. It's a neutral red which could go with plenty of skin tones and it has this beautiful subtleness to it that I really enjoy. Its not too in your face. Rimmel Kate Moss lipstick in 11 Rosetto is bordering on a deep wine color,  beautiful for this time of year. Rimmel is bringing it with the drugstore lipsticks. The formulas are amazing and the color range is phenomenal. I am actually on the hunt for Rimmel's Bordeaux lipstick, a beautiful vampy deep maroon color that I just need in my collection.

The Berries
It all started with Maybelline's Colorsensational Gloss in Raspberry Ablaze a limited edition color you may still be able to get your hands on. This color is extremely saturated for a gloss. Then I went on a hunt for a dupe for MAC's Rebel lipstick. Love the color but I am not a fan of MAC's lipstick formulas. YSL Rouge Volupte in #12 is almost spot on but the formula is a tad glossier, which I prefer. Wet N Wild Ferguson Crest is another dupe and its only $2.99. The formula is great, easy to apply , not drying, and has decent staying power. NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Palais Royal has more red and less purple but I still enjoy wearing this. If you aren't ready to dive head first into the vampy berries try Sonia Kashuks Lip Color in Sheer Plum, its sheer but it can be built up to be bold.

As far as application I have learned that lip liner is my best friend and the cleaner the application the better it looks on your lips. I usually apply the product straight from the tube but lip brushes can help if you don't have a steady hand. I hope this post encourages you to have fun with your makeup and take a step out of your comfort zone, who knows you may find something you truly enjoy!
