The Beauty Bag ~ November

I know most of you are going to be very surprised when I say my recent obsession is foundation. Even more of you may pass out when I say I am all about matte foundations. Being a huge advocate of glowy, natural looking skin I am cult follower of all things tinted moisturizer, but recently I have dipped my toe into the realm of foundations and I yes I am now a believer. Foundation has come a long way from its cakey, heavy looking ancestors. Brands are releasing foundations that not only allow your skin to breath but still provide nice coverage. I am really excited about this new cross breed of luminous matte foundations, especially now that the weather is bordering on arctic.
I recently picked up two new foundations (one new to the beauty world and another that's just new to me) Marc Jacobs Genius Gel Foundation in Cocoa Medium and Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Even Finish Foundation. The Marc Jacobs option is extremely lightweight on the skin and very buildable. It's matte without looking chalky or flat, there's a beautiful subtle radiance that is perfect for this time of year. The color match is spot on for me and it lasts a good 12hrs (with a primer). The gel consistency makes this perfect to wear during the day and the non- spf makes it great to also wear on a night out. It photographs beautifully and is definitely a great option for those of you who are willing to dish out the cash for this. Bobbi Browns Long-Wear Foundation surprised me. As soon as I hear long-wear I immediately run. Long- wearing foundations have proven time and time again to be heavy, chalky, and just not right for my combination/dry skin type. But oh Bobbi! She made this foundation perfect! (cue angels and harps). Yesterday I wore this from about 7:15am to 11:00pm and my face was flawless the whole time. I could go on but maybe I should dedicate a post to just this? (let me know).

Along with my new found love for luminous matte foundations, I have been pairing every makeup look with a vampy lip. There's something so dramatic and romantic about a nice burgundy lip with matte skin. My recent picks have been NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Palais Royal and Rimmel Lasting Finish in Bordeaux. On days when I want a toned down version of the trend I opt for Maybelline The Elixir in Dashing Orchid. One thing I have learned about makeup recently is to try everything, even if you think you wouldn't like it. 3 months ago if you would have told me I would be wearing matte foundation and lipstick I would have laughed, but now I am really enjoying having fun with my makeup looks!

Have you tried anything recently that you wouldn't normally have and loved it?
