The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder Revisited

1/26/15

I've been using the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders all wrong.
It's no surprise here, that the beauty community is obsessed with the Hourglass powders, and why wouldn't they be? With the promise of "creating your perfect light", while also diffusing and softening the way light reflects of your face, it seems like perfect glowing skin in a compact. I didn't see the hype. It's a really nice powder, it sets makeup without looking caky, but most powders do that and I didn't see the clear difference until recently.
Here's the thing, Hourglass shouldn't say the shades are universal, because they aren't. If you find the right powder for your skin type then all the aforementioned promises may come true, but if you pick up the wrong shade...your going to have some issues. I had Dim Light for the longest, and although it doesn't look bad on my skin, it didn't look amazing either, if anything I felt my skin looked a little dull, so I recently decided to pick up Luminous Light (moment of silence), it is beautiful, it gives me some serious glow while also setting my makeup beautifully. What have I done with Dim Light? I use it to set my under eye concealer and my t-zone. Im obesessed. It gives a nice highlighting effect without the shimmer or the "white" cast. Ok Hourglass...I get it now.

    1. Yep love them now, I fell so in love again that I picked up the palette. If you haven't tried the powders yet I suggest the palette option, that way you can try 3 different colors!
