The 2015 Skincare Favorites and Discoveries

1/25/16

2015 was the year of skincare brand discoveries and products that were not only effective but also gentle. Let's talk skin first, the issues I was concerned with last year and the lessons I learned . I have easily congested, extremely sensitive , dry skin. My skin can be so temperamental at times that it can be very frustrating trying new products. I tend to stick with my tried and trues , but last year, I really branched out and it completely changed the way I look at my skin. The biggest concerns in 2015 was combatting break outs and dealing with a weird bumpy, irritated , red patch of skin that pretty much surrounded my mouth and chin area...not cute friends, not cute at all. I also had constant issues with my nose, it was always noticeably congested.
Here's what I learned during this process of dealing with these issues...I tend to be sensitive to oil
(gasps), it may not be all oils, but the few that I have tried cause irritation and congestion and I always have to "recover" after using one ( Sunday Riley Luna is a clear exception, we will get to that in a second).  I also need to pick better moisturizers, ones that don't clog pores and use more acid toners, ones without alcohol. The most important lesson of all, is one that is simple but often was over looked in 2015...I have to take the time to care for my skin, when I am patient, properly read ingredients and product descriptions, do my research, and constantly stay on top of my skincare routines....my skin loves me for it...oh and water, always water. Ok, lets talk products.
Hands down Sunday Riley took over my skincare cabinet last year, and this brand is here to  stay, everything I have tried has been not only wonderful but extremely effective, we are talking next day effective for some of these products. It all began with the Sunday Riley Ceramic Slip Clay Cleanser, it's marketed toward normal to oily skin types but this dry skin gal loves it. It is pretty much solely my night time cleanser and does a wonderful job at cleansing without stripping while also combatting current and up and coming breakouts. I did a a full review of this beauty and my other faves, Luna Night Oil and Good Genes here, if you like more details. The newest edition to the brand and to my stash is the Blue Moon Tranquility Cleansing Balm, a review is coming soon to the blog, but this is all kinds of delicious.
Tatcha was another new for me brand. All of their products are beautiful and I have currently fallen back in love with the Rice Enzyme Powder Cleanser...but the stand out? The Tatcha Cammelia Cleansing Oil is by far the best oil cleanser I have ever tried...this is my second bottle and I don't plan on stopping. It's such a pleasure to use and really leaves the skin nourished. Caudalie was a brand that I had tried out off and on throughout the years but last year I really dove in and quickly fell in love. The Gentle Cleansing Milk is beautiful for a morning cleanse, especially during this time of year. I don't want to be redundant so check out my two part post on my Caudalie collection.
Kate Sommerville Goat Milk Moisturizer, although a recent repurchase ( towards the end of 2015) it is perfect for my skin, it's lightweight so it doesn't cause congestion and the lactic acid allows for a light exfoliation of the skin. This needs a full post on it's on, so that will be coming in the next few weeks.
For 2016, I really want to keep up with my skincare routine and incorporate some anti-aging products. I am also looking to try a few new brands...the brand Kypris is on my radar and I am itching to purchase a few things.
